    题目Effect of Attention and Recognition on Content Creation and Engagement: Experimental Results from a Large Social Network

    讲座内容:

        We present the results of a controlled experiment on a social network for creative professions that measures the effects of attention and recognition on subsequent network activity and content sharing behavior. A unique feature of our experimental context is that we are able to observe off-network activity of the individuals concerned, through the linkage of social network accounts and the accounts of software used to create content that is posted on the network. The main results of our experiment are that being featured and recognized on the network increases engagement, tie-formation, posting of creative output, and the usage of underlying tools. We explore the temporal aspects of these effects, finding that being featured on the network leads to increased recognition from the rest of the network for a relatively long period. The effects on content creation, sharing and engagement measures are significant, but shorter lived than the effects on the recognition measures. These results are significant not just for understanding how social networks can influence content sharing and engagement of the users on the networks, but also give insights to the linkages between social networks and associated off-network products and activities.

    主讲人简介:

        Justin Huang is a PhD Candidate of Quantitative Marketing at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, studying under the advisorship of Professor Sridhar Narayanan. Justin’s research focuses on examining economics and incentives within digital platforms and marketplaces, particularly social networks and two-sided markets. Some of his current work explores the ability of social networks to direct attention and recognition in order to motivate new content creation on the platform.

        Before studying at Stanford, Justin interned at Goldman Sachs, Capital One, and the National Institutes of Health. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in Economics and a BS in Mathematics.
